BORS 2026 Provisional Programme Now Available
The meeting will feature five themed scientific sessions, invited keynote lectures, the BORS Presidential Lecture, rapid poster presentations, the BORS–BJR Travelling Fellowship update, and a MAINSTREAM-sponsored session on orthopaedic cell therapies.
Registration remains open until 31st August 2026. Presenting authors should register by 14th August 2026 to confirm their place in the scientific programme.

Professor Neal Millar
Translational Orthopaedics … Are We There Yet??

Professor Neal Millar is Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Glasgow and an academic shoulder surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. He leads a basic science laboratory investigating the molecular pathophysiology of tendinopathy and is internationally recognised for his work in tendon disorders. His specialist interests include rotator cuff problems, shoulder instability, arthritis, stiffness and complex tendinopathy.
Dr Jenny Gregory
Shape Matters in Orthopaedics: Understanding Osteoarthritis Risk and Outcomes

Dr Jenny Gregory is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition at the University of Aberdeen. Her research applies advanced medical image analysis to musculoskeletal health, disease and ageing, with particular expertise in bone morphology, osteoarthritis and physical activity. She is internationally recognised for her work in statistical shape modelling and its application to understanding clinically relevant patterns of musculoskeletal disease.
Mr Akash Sharma
Robotic TKA: Evolution or Revolution?

Mr Akash Sharma is a Consultant Knee Surgeon at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, and President of CAOS UK. He specialises in robotic-assisted knee replacement, partial knee replacement, ligament reconstruction and complex revision surgery. His work focuses on precision surgery, digital innovation and improving patient outcomes through computer-assisted techniques, alongside advancing education and the safe adoption of emerging orthopaedic technologies.
Professor Gordon Ramage
Biofilms at the Interface: Understanding and Tackling Infection in Orthopaedic Implants

Professor Gordon Ramage is Professor of Infection Prevention and Control and Director of the Research Centre for Health at Glasgow Caledonian University. An internationally recognised microbiologist, he has spent more than 30 years investigating microbial biofilms and their role in infection. His research spans bacterial and fungal biofilms, antimicrobial resistance, infection prevention, diagnostics and therapeutics, including biofilm-associated infections affecting medical devices and biomaterials.
Professor Chloe Scott
Clinical Confidence from Biomechanical Modelling

Professor Chloe Scott is a consultant hip, knee and trauma surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Editor-in-Chief of Bone & Joint Research. Her specialist clinical interests include complex knee arthroplasty and periprosthetic fracture management. Her research spans arthroplasty outcomes, robotic surgery, finite element analysis and knee biomechanics, and she is also an Honorary Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London.
Orthopaedic Cell Therapies: From GMP Manufacturing to NHS Delivery

Thomas Strakosch specialises in market access strategy, health technology appraisal decision-making and economic modelling for Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products. His presentation will explore how market access considerations can be incorporated into therapy development from an early stage to optimise the chances of commercial success, including an orthopaedic cell therapy health technology assessment exemplar.

From Vein to Vein: The NHS Cellular Therapy Pathway
Lead Pharmacist, Clinical Trials, Research & Innovation and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde

Dr Samantha Carmichael has extensive experience supporting the development, regulatory oversight and delivery of cell and gene therapies, including first-in-human gene therapy studies, commercial and academic ATMP clinical trials, and licensed cellular therapies. She is actively involved in national ATMP networks supporting the adoption and expansion of innovative cellular and gene therapies across Scotland.
Panel Discussion and Audience Q&A
Following the three presentations, the speakers will come together for a 30-minute panel discussion and audience Q&A, considering the challenges involved in moving orthopaedic cell therapies from scientific development through manufacture, evaluation and ultimately clinical delivery.

About BORS 2026
The British Orthopaedic Research Society (BORS) Annual Meeting 2026 will take place on 8–9th September 2026 at the Technology & Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde, in the heart of Glasgow.
This year’s theme is Translational Orthopaedic Research, with a scientific programme spanning the breadth of musculoskeletal research—from fundamental discovery and bioengineering to clinical application.
BORS 2026 will be a pan-Glasgow meeting, organised by a cross-institutional committee representing:
- University of Strathclyde
- University of Glasgow
- Glasgow Caledonian University
- NHS Golden Jubilee
- The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
Each institution will lead a dedicated scientific session, highlighting the breadth of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic research taking place across the region.
The BORS Annual Meeting traditionally attracts a balanced audience of practising orthopaedic surgeons and academic researchers, creating a highly translational environment that fosters collaboration between clinicians, scientists, engineers, and industry partners.

Abstract notifications have now been sent to submitting authors. Presenting authors must register for the conference by 14th August 2026 to confirm their inclusion in the scientific programme. Presenting authors wishing to benefit from the early-bird rate should register by 1st August 2026.
The theme of this year’s meeting is Translational Orthopaedic Research, and the scientific programme will span the full breadth of musculoskeletal research, from fundamental science to clinical application.

Delegates are encouraged to book accommodation in Glasgow as early as possible. Please note that another large conference, expected to attract approximately 8,000 delegates, is taking place in the city at the same time as BORS 2026, so hotel availability is likely to reduce quickly.

BORS offers a New Investigator Award at the Annual Meeting for the best podium presentation delivered by an eligible new investigator.

Andrew Sprowson Award for Translational Research
Award for best podium presentation detailing translational research. Please state if you would like to be considered for this award. Note: BORS membership at the time of applying and during the annual meeting is an eligibility requirement.
Best Poster Presentation Award
This award is presented for the best poster presentation at the BORS Annual Meeting.
All submitted abstracts selected for poster presentation will automatically be considered.
No additional application or eligibility form is required.
